Operations Engineer

Job Location: San Mateo, CA

Job Description:
The Red Aril Operational Engineer will architect Linux-based solutions to meet various business needs and requirements. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Designing the environment, hardware specifications, and software layers to provide for a reliable, scalable, secure, and highly available Linux systems environment.
  • Working with project managers and technical staff in defining and documenting technical project requirements.
  • Indentifying gaps in the Linux environment and offering a solution.
  • Implementing the solution with scripts (Perl, bash, etc), and writing scripts for task automation, resource monitoring, and performance monitoring.
  • Developing and maintaining documentation related to the design, installation, administration, and maintenance of multiple Linux systems in a distributed computing environment.
  • Managing system performance, and making recommendations to improve and implement system-wide changes to enhance overall system proficiency.
  • Designing and documenting Linux disaster recovery procedures and practices.
  • Supporting offsite disaster recovery efforts by participating in routine tests.
  • Performing root cause analysis for service interruption recovery, creating preventative measures, and presenting solutions to management.
  • Ensuring stability, viability, and maintenance of the 24/7 mission-critical production environment.
  • Ensuring systems adhere to IT security policies.
  • Designing and maintaining a repeatable, documented patch deployment methodology for administrators to implement.
  • Working closely with offshore team to deploy standard builds on schedule.
  • Providing support on an as needed basis (24 by 7).
  • Troubleshooting communications protocols [TCP/IP, Telnet, Ethernet, HTTP, DHCP].
  • Participating in and analyzing data for capacity and performance initiatives.
  • Designing, documenting and executing systems tests to complement the technical testing process.
  • Implementing Linux security controls.
  • Mentoring and supervising junior resources in the absence of an immediate manager.
  • Driving the implementation of Linux administration best practices.
  • Functioning as part of a multi-disciplined team responsible for optimizing the systems environment.

Job Requirements:
The applicant should possess a BA/BS in computer science or minimum of five years of experience. The applicant must possess the ability to work with minimal direction and be knowledge seeking.

Required technical skills include:

  • Linux OS (Red Hat EL 4.x, 5.x)
  • System internals (scheduling, memory management, TCP/IP stack, etc.)
  • LDAP, dns, ntp, nfs, dhcp, Kerberos
  • Networking technologies from a systems perspective (e.g., Ethernet, TCP/IP, multicast, etc.)
  • Kickstart procedures
  • Familiarity with the Red Hat Cluster Suite
  • Scripting Skills: Bash required

Additional knowledge desired (but not required):

  • Web development and database skills
  • Experience with ITIL
  • Perl and Python scripting

Red Aril is seeking a Senior Product Manager to lead the effort of building the Red Aril Audience Monetization Platform. The Product Manager will be responsible for definition of new features geared towards boosting performance and usability of Red Aril Audience Monetization Platform, product planning, and execution. This position requires working closely with the Red Aril engineering, sales, business development, and ad operations teams to ensure customer satisfaction.
